I don’t always check my referred links but sometimes it’s fun to see where people link to me. And guess what! The good people of the Westboro Baptist Church have shown up in my referred links for some time now (I imagine since I first posted about their Canadian plans) under http://godhatesfags.com/news/index.html. Unfortunately, when I click the link I get an error page so I can’t read the context in which I’m mentioned there. I’m sure they’re huge fans and encourage all of their extended family fellow worshipers to come here and read my cuddly and godless commentary. Either that or I’m on a list of bloggers they plan to picket when our times come up. And just in case there’s any confusion, I want the biggest, burliest bikers standing in front of them menacingly bouncing crowbars into their huge hands should my deluded fans at the WBC decide to attend my eventual and inevitable funeral.
Finally, since I know the WBC is following my blog, I invite them to comment. I’m sure you have much to say so don’t be shy, my rabid little biscuits.

I’d like to point out a few things that are very wrong with this statement.
1) Least importantly, I’m not Canadian. I’m a Mississippian (just like Fred Phelps – eww!) who is staying in British Columbia.
2) Though I’m a little silly at times, my mental state is not that of one who is, in fact, psychotic.
3) God and prophets do not exist and even if they did, if that god embodied Fred Phelp’s ideals I’d sell my soul to the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
4) The people the WBC target are humans, not ‘pooh’ [sic].
5) There is no hell. Now start enjoying your life.

It always bemuses me that certain religions seem to need to browbeat people into following their way (sounds a lot like something else I should not mention). If people wanted to follow it of their own accord, they would, without having to resort to trying to slander others or picket folks etc. etc. etc….

How brave of them to “comment” on their own site, where you are not even allowed to visit. And I won’t look but something tells me commenting their would be either impossible at all or seriously filtered. THAT is the platform on which they dare to spread their hatefull garbage: unanswered, at least by sane people who are eloquent enough to easily refute their wacko delusion.
P.S.: If your biker-gang is finished at yours, can I borrow them for my funeral? Or if mine comes first, would they like some practice before the real thing? ;-)

Now, I’m a Christian, but I do NOT agree with the theology that Westboro teaches. They say that God is a God of hate, that He hates America, He hates people, that He hates everyone and everything. According to the Bible, the only thing that God hates is sin. In 1 John 4:8 it says that “He who does not love does not know God, for God IS LOVE”, not hate. I’m sorry for anyone who has ever been told that God hates them, or are under the illusion that God hates only you. God does not hate you. In fact, God loves you very much.
The good folks of Westboro say things to the effect of “that whole ‘love’ message thing is what got people into this mess” (“this mess” being a society of people that are comfortable and happy with their sin) so they go off telling everyone that God hates them? That’s bull. God is real, and He loves everyone. He is obviously not a fan of sin, but He loves you and me and everyone else. If He didn’t love us, He wouldn’t try. I know that if I were God, I certainly wouldn’t. I would’ve given up on mankind a looooong time ago. In Job 34:14 it says “If He should set His heart on it, If He should gather to Himself His Spirit and His breath, all flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust.” But because you and I are still here, it’s evidence that God is still interested in us, still as a specific will for our lives, and still loves us.
I realize it’s odd for me to post this on an atheist website, but there you go. God bless.

I obviously don’t agree with the first clause, but I whole-heartedly agree with the second.
While I am not a Christain (but do believe in God), I find the acts of Rev. Phelps and his followers distatseful. How can anyone in their right mind go to a funeral and tell the loved ones of the dearly departed that they were killed because America tolerates homosexuality? I mean, this is something from a Monty Python skit!
I’ve been to their site and thought I was on madmagazine.com. I was enough to make God into an atheist!

By the way, I just saw a few vid on youtube with Rev. Phelp’s sister, the old chick with the glassy eyes who smiles as she mixes biblial scripture with hatred while talking over the news program’s host.
She looks scary, like a fanatical Nazi who thinks Hitler was the Second Coming. With nut cases like that running around, I can’t blame you for not believing in God.
How could everything we have exist without God? How could anything we have exist without God? But who knows, for real, what God wants and doesn’t want? Certainly not silly people like Phelps and his lot. Children seem to know, very young children, I think they know what God wants.
