The IDiots Guide to Evolution: Haeckel’s Embryos

17 03 2009

Let’s forget about genetics. Let’s forget what peer-reviewed science has to say. Here’s what the Discovery Institute wants you to know about Haeckel’s embryos. (Again, click on the link below the image to view it full-sized.)

Also, Darwin was a racist, and one time some scientists lied about some bones.

Man, that thing is full of ridiculous statements and cherry picked “evidence” to back up opinions that they are pretending are facts.

Do they have a huge chapter on why, since people fell for piltdown man, we should believe the talking snake theory?

Jackson, don’t you know it’s a binary choice?

You only have to show that ONE thing is wrong with science, and it proves the entirety of modern evangelical Christianity to be true.

Well that’s what keeps me laughing about the whole thing. They try so hard to prove evolution wrong and since it’s a scientific theory which can be modified and revised, they seem a bit reasonable at times.

Then they go all talking snake and Noah on your ass, and there is absolutely no way in hell they’re proving that.

Even if they COULD disprove evolution, then we’d all be scratching our heads going “well now what?” And not “oh shit, it was god all along!”

Although the idea of an embryo going through evolution at its development has proven to be incorrect, that does not invalidate all the observations for which evolution has been found, over and over again, to comply to.
Also, all embryos of vertebrates actually DO start out almost, or exactly, the same: as one single cell. So the idea that all embryos start the same and grow to be different is correct.

Only the idea of “fast scaled” evolution within an embryo has been proven to be wrong, but that is how science works: you have an idea, you test it, if it proves to be wrong you discard it, if it proves correct it turns into a scientific theory. And of course scientists are just like normal people: every now and then you find one that is not all too honest. Surprise!

Furthermore, every scientific theory is subject to amendments whenever new observations become available. But that is something that religiots inherently can not comprehend: they still cling to the “exact” text of a book written hundreds of years ago.

If we use the same arguements that religious amongst you impose on science, that, if you can show one thing is wrong then the whole of science is wrong. How then If Zeus and all the multitude of Roman, Greek Gods are false then ALL Gods must be false. So it must follow that JC was not the son of God, he and his followers must have been lying.
Does the sun go round the Earth which of course is at the center of the Universe. Religions have been shown to be wrong in just about everything nor can they agree on anything including the central tenet of the Ten or is it several hundred Commandments. Fortunately Science is not a religion and Religions are NOT Science

In a few generations Evolution will be accepted and religions will accept it and claim it was their Gods all along. That’s how religions work they evolve. From Gods in Boxes to Gods on sticks. On a scientific scale religion has moved from being a single cell amoeba to slime mold. Not much evidence of intelligence yet.

Meh, most religions don’t argue with evolution. It’s a peculiarly American thing. I was taught science by nuns.

Darwin was wrong on a point. Actually, he was wrong about lots of things, but he had an idea that gave other people ideas. That’s science. Haeckel ignored evidence and tried to make things fit what he believed…. hmmm… haven’t heard about any creationists doing that *cough*creationmuseum*cough* It makes for bad science, and eventually gets discredited.

Find good evidence for an alternative mechanism, and I guarantee, scientists around the world will celebrate. Why don’t the nutters get this?
